Projects and Clients
The directors of Waste Watchers Ltd have been involved in waste minimisation and resource recovery projects since the late 1990's. Recent projects involve working as cleaner production service providers on behalf of local authorities, regional councils and other clients. Waste Watchers have worked with several regional and national winners of Sustainable Businesses Awards through the SBN Sustainable Business Challenge. Notible winners include Design Mobel, Bayfair Shopping Mall, Devan Plastics, Oasis Engineering and Comvita.
Tauranga City Council
Since 2003 Waste Watchers personnel have been delivering a variety of cleaner production initiatives and conducting waste audits in businesses throughout Tauranga City.Waste Watchers have recently been awarded the Zero Waste Management cleaner production contract until June 30th, 2011.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council
Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production projects have been under contract to Waste Watchers Ltd in the Western Bay of Plenty since 2002. The most notable of these has involved a study into the kiwifruit industry and more specifically packhouse waste. Approximately 80% of all kiwifruit grown in New Zealand are packed in the Bay of Plenty. Other projects have included a study of construction and demolition waste, holiday park waste, supermarket waste audits and visits to hundreds of local businesses.
Whakatane District Council
Waste Watchers Ltd were contracted to conduct a large scale Community Based Social Marketing campaign. This involved visiting and meeting with over 500 businesses owners and managers throughout the district. The project focused on helping businesses understand and work with a new waste and recycling collection service. Businesses were given practical assistance, advice and support. Waste Watchers Ltd have worked as service providers for the council on a contract basis.
Opotiki District Council
The directors of Waste Watchers Ltd have managed various cleaner production initiatives in the Opotiki region over the years. Participating businesses have been involved with a project which included conducting waste audits and making recommendations for increased resource recovery.
Kawerau District Council
This project focused on several industry sectors located in the Kawerau region. Businesses participated in a cleaner production programme focused on zero waste initiatives.
Tararua District Council
A feasability study of of community-wide recycling programmes was assesed in a project to determine best practice outcomes.
